The decisive factor here was not only the technological basis, but above all the exceptionally close cooperation between IT, logistics and partners. A new quality of cooperation – characterised by transparency, mutual trust and excellent preparation – carried this success through to the final interface.
Daimler Truck AG was faced with a clear challenge: the existing system for managing load carriers was outdated, had grown heterogeneously and was no longer viable for international requirements. A fixed shutdown date made it necessary to introduce a new solution under high pressure. At the same time, the new system landscape should not only digitalise the processes of the past, but also create space for the requirements of tomorrow. The goal: a standardised, future-proof system that is both operationally performant and strategically scalable.
The focus was on the consistent conversion to a cloud-centred system. The new architecture is based on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and integrates both customised apps and standard applications from SAP Returnable Packaging Management (RPM). Both components run in the cloud and together form the new, central portal for internal and external users. On-premise systems such as S/4HANA remained connected, but were deliberately pushed into the background in favour of the cloud-based platform. The result: a modern, easily accessible and role-based system with maximum transparency and a high level of user-friendliness.
